Are you an experienced Automation Engineer Electrical & Controls Engineer looking for your next opportunity within a fast-paced, highly automated manufacturing environment?

We are recruiting for an Automation Engineer to join a leading FMCG manufacturing operation, where you will play a key role in improving the reliability, efficiency and performance of automated production equipment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with strong PLC, robotics, HMI and industrial controls experience who enjoys problem-solving and delivering tangible improvements.

The Role

As an Improvement Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical and controls elements of machine building, optimisation and high-level technical support across the production environment.

You will

  • Design, implement and test control systems using PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, robotics and industrial networks.
  • Debug and optimise PLC, robotic and HMI software.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, robotics and machine-safety hardware.
  • Analyse and improve electrical systems and automated machinery performance.
  • Optimise control systems to improve uptime, cycle times and efficiency.
  • Provide electrical and controls fault-finding and troubleshooting support.
  • Work closely with Mechanical, Quality and Production teams.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across the manufacturing process.

About You

We're looking for an engineer who is

  • Experienced within a high-speed automated production environment.
  • Confident reading and understanding electrical drawings.
  • Experienced in panel building, wiring and control-system programming.
  • A strong problem solver with a logical and methodical approach.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • An effective communicator with excellent attention to detail.
  • Driven to deliver results and takes genuine pride in their work.
  • PC literate, including Microsoft Office.

Current or recent posts held include mechatronic engineer, mechatronic technician, improvement engineer, controls engineer, graduate automation engineer, automation maintenance engineer

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Minimum HNC or Level 4 qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Relevant experience in electrical engineering, controls and automated manufacturing.

Desirable

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship or time-served background.
  • Experience with Keyence, Omron, Pro-face HMIs and industrial robots.
  • PRINCE2 qualification.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
