About the Role

We are seeking an organised and proactive Conveyancing Secretary or Paralegal to join our clients busy residential property team in Southend-on-Sea.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced legal support professional to work within a friendly and established firm, assisting fee earners with a varied caseload of residential conveyancing matters.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring transactions progress smoothly while delivering a high standard of client care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative and legal support to conveyancing fee earners.
  • Preparing correspondence, contracts, transfer deeds and completion statements.
  • Opening and closing client files in accordance with compliance procedures.
  • Managing client onboarding, including ID verification and AML checks.
  • Ordering searches and reviewing search results.
  • Liaising with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders and solicitors.
  • Managing diaries, appointments and key transaction dates.
  • Preparing SDLT returns and Land Registry applications.
  • Handling telephone enquiries and providing regular updates to clients.
  • Maintaining accurate case management records.
  • Assisting with exchange and completion processes.
  • Supporting fee earners with post-completion matters where required.
  • Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Previous experience working within residential conveyancing.
  • Experience as either a Conveyancing Secretary, Legal Assistant or Conveyancing Paralegal.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and legal case management systems.
  • Professional and client-focused approach.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the conveyancing process from instruction through to post-completion.
  • Experience preparing SDLT submissions and Land Registry applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Legal qualifications (CILEx, LPC or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.
