Semi-Senior Accountant
Package: £28,000 to £36,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Semi-Senior Accountant or experienced Practice Assistant to join a growing accountancy firm based in the Melton Mowbray area.
Working directly alongside the firm's Senior Accountant in a close-knit office environment, this role offers hands-on mentorship and training to help develop your career.
The practice serves a strong local client base-including local businesses and agricultural clients-who regularly visit the office with records and paperwork.
As such, this position requires a dedicated, full-time office presence to maintain smooth daily operations and deliver excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Processing: Take ownership of running regular client payrolls.
- Client Record Management: Receive, sort, and process physical paperwork, receipts, and records brought into the office by local clients and farmers.
- General Bookkeeping & Accounts: Assist with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks and support the preparation of accounts under supervision.
- Software Utilisation: Utilize cloud-based accounting platforms and dedicated practice software to maintain accurate client records.
- Client Liaison: Interact directly with walk-in clients and handle day-to-day client queries in a professional manner.
- Candidate Requirements
- Practice Experience: Prior experience working within a UK accountancy practice (ideally under 4 years of experience, but candidates with solid practical exposure are welcome).
- Payroll Capability: Hands-on experience or familiarity with processing payroll is highly desirable.
- Software Competency: Experience using Xero, Bright Pay, and/or IRIS (or similar accounting software packages).
- Commitment & Drive: A strong work ethic, openness to learning, and comfort using modern tech/IT tools in daily tasks.
- Location & Commute: Must live within a reasonable commuting distance to Melton Mowbray, be comfortable with countryside driving during winter months, and be looking for a full-time, in-office role.
- Qualifications: AAT study/qualification is welcomed, but not essential-relevant practical experience and attitude are prioritized over formal credentials.
