Associate Risk Director
Location: The role is hybrid to one of our offices: Manchester, Stoke, Peterborough, Tunbridge Wells or London
We are looking for an Associate Risk Director will play a key role in supporting the senior leadership team to manage and mitigate risk across the organisation.
The role contributes directly to the delivery of the Group Risk & Compliance function's objectives and wider departmental strategy by helping to shape, embed and continuously improve the Group's risk management framework, oversight model, governance arrangements and strategic risk agenda.
Reporting to the Group Risk Director, the role provides senior support and additional capacity to strengthen second-line oversight, enhance the quality of risk insight and challenge provided to the business, and support delivery of the department's priorities across governance and risk maturity.
This position will support the Group in developing robust risk management strategies and fostering a strong culture of risk awareness and informed decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance risk frameworks and policies, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Lead independent risk assessments, providing objective oversight of strategic, operational and emerging risks through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Advise and challenge the business on risk mitigation, controls and monitoring arrangements.
- Support risk monitoring and reporting, providing actionable insights and second-line opinions on key risks, trends and issues requiring escalation.
- Oversee incident response and remediation from a second-line perspective, providing challenge and assurance of first-line actions.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Legal and Audit teams to ensure adherence to regulatory and industry standards.
- Lead risk awareness and training initiatives, promoting a strong risk culture and clear understanding of first and second-line responsibilities.
- Monitor and assess risk appetite, advising senior leaders on alignment with strategic objectives and regulatory expectations.
- Own second-line risk reporting, preparing clear and independent reports for Boards, committees and stakeholders.
- Engage with executive and senior leadership forums, providing credible second-line input on material risks, emerging issues and mitigation effectiveness.
- Key Skills & Experience
- Experience in risk management within insurance or financial services, ideally in senior or leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e. g., FCA, PRA) and risk modelling techniques.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Professional certification (e. g., IRM, CII, or equivalent) is desirable.
