You will manage a varied caseload, working alongside experienced solicitors within a supportive and professional environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will handle a broad range of Private Client matters, providing expert support and guidance to clients throughout the estate planning and administration process.
Key Responsibilities
- Wills & Estate Planning
- Conduct client meetings and provide clear advice on estate planning options, including inheritance tax planning.
- Draft wills of varying complexity, including mirror wills, discretionary trusts, life interest trusts, and business property provisions.
- Prepare supporting documents such as letters of wishes, guardianship clauses, and severance of joint tenancy forms.
- Advise on Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) and assist with registration where required.
- Ensure all documentation is prepared accurately and in line with professional standards.
- Probate & Estate Administration
- Advise executors and administrators throughout the probate and estate administration process.
- Prepare grant applications, including grants of probate and letters of administration.
- Value estates, identify assets and liabilities, and prepare inheritance tax documentation where required.
- Manage estate administration from initial instruction through to final distribution.
- Liaise with financial institutions, beneficiaries, HMRC, HM Land Registry, and other third parties.
- Prepare estate accounts and deal with Trust Registration Service requirements where applicable.
- Identify potential contentious probate issues and escalate appropriately.
- Caseload & Client Management
- Manage a varied personal caseload efficiently, meeting deadlines and service standards.
- Maintain regular communication with clients and third parties, providing clear updates throughout matters.
- Accurately record time, support billing processes, and contribute to departmental targets.
- Assist with supervision and development of junior team members where appropriate.
- Support business development and client relationship initiatives.

The successful candidate will have
- Strong experience within a Private Client department.
- Excellent knowledge of wills, probate, estate administration, trusts, and estate planning.
- The ability to manage a caseload independently from instruction through to completion.
- Strong drafting skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and client care skills.
- A professional and empathetic approach when dealing with sensitive client matters.
- Experience using case management systems and legal technology, including My HMCTS.

- You will be expected to maintain high standards of professional practice, including:
- Compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations.
- Following AML, client due diligence, and data protection requirements.
