Trial Balance Consulting has been exclusively engaged by a highly successful and ambitious Cornish business to recruit an experienced Finance Director / Head of Finance to join its senior leadership team. This is not a traditional finance leadership role. Operating across multiple sites, the business is entering an exciting new phase of growth and is seeking a commercially minded finance professional who can combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the organisation, providing financial leadership whilst remaining close enough to the operation to support the wider team when required.

Working closely with the senior leadership team, this is an opportunity for an experienced Finance Director, Head of Finance or Financial Controller to influence key business decisions, drive performance and build a finance function capable of supporting the company's ambitious long-term plans.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and insight to the senior leadership team
  • Lead, mentor and develop the finance team and wider finance function
  • Deliver meaningful management accounts, financial reporting and commercial analysis
  • Own the budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management processes
  • Drive improvements in systems, controls and financial processes
  • Partner with operational leaders across multiple sites to improve business performance
  • Lead financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and provide clear recommendations to support growth
  • Support investment decisions and long-term strategic planning
  • Ensure robust financial controls, compliance and governance
  • Remain hands-on and willing to step into the detail when required

I'm keen to hear from candidates currently operating as a Finance Director, Head of Finance, Financial Controller or Group Financial Controller. Applicants will hold an ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification and possess strong experience in financial reporting, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management and strategic financial planning. Equally important is the ability to balance strategic leadership with operational involvement. The successful candidate will be commercially astute, comfortable influencing senior stakeholders and confident operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Previous experience within a multi-site, manufacturing, engineering, logistics, construction or other operationally focused business would be advantageous, although candidates from a broad range of sectors will be considered. Most importantly, I'm looking for someone who enjoys building, improving and influencing. I need a finance leader who wants to play a genuine role in shaping the future of a growing business.
