We are seeking an experienced Security Engineer to take responsibility for the design, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of cybersecurity across internal and customer networks and systems. The role will work closely with Security, IT, Compliance and Engineering teams, providing technical expertise in network security, incident response, vulnerability management and security monitoring. The successful candidate will act as a key technical authority and provide third-line support for complex security issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement security policies, standards, procedures and technical controls.
  • Design, build, test and troubleshoot security solutions across internal and customer networks.
  • Act as a technical centre of excellence for network and device security.
  • Monitor and investigate security events using SIEM, IDS/IPS and other security tools.
  • Investigate and resolve security incidents and provide incident response support.
  • Manage vulnerabilities and support penetration testing and security assessments.
  • Provide through-life cybersecurity support and recommend improvements.
  • Provide third-line technical support for complex network security issues.
  • Produce and maintain security configurations, schematics, procedures and technical documentation.
  • Advise colleagues and customers on security threats, vulnerabilities and best practice.
  • Support security awareness, knowledge sharing and training.
  • Work across IT and Engineering teams to ensure secure network and system design.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and technology partners as required.

Technical Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Cisco firewalls, routers and switches
    • Juniper platforms
    • SIEM
    • IDS/IPS
    • Vulnerability management
    • Penetration testing
    • Computer forensics
    • Secure network design and management
    • Security monitoring and incident investigation
  • Good knowledge of:
    • ISO 27001
    • ITIL
    • GDPR
    • Security governance and risk management

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working across multiple networks and complex environments.
  • Proven experience designing and managing secure networks.
  • Strong cybersecurity and network security knowledge.
  • Experience investigating and resolving security incidents.
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
  • Ability to explain complex security issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, flexible and able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to take ownership of issues and drive them through to resolution.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain UK SC Security Clearance.

Desirable

  • Telecommunications experience.
  • Satellite communications (SatCom) experience.
  • Maritime communications experience.
  • UK MOD or Government network experience.
  • Experience working in regulated or security-sensitive environments.

Person Specification

  • Security Clearance: SC Security Clearance required or ability to obtain.

They should be comfortable dealing with complex security incidents, working collaboratively across engineering teams and continuously improving security standards and controls.
