The Plant Manager (12-month Fixed-Term Contract) will oversee the day-to-day operations of the plant in Plymouth, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

This role is key to maintaining high standards in engineering and manufacturing while supporting the company's goals.

  • EHS
  • To meet all statutory (i. e.) HASAWA, and all UK regulatory requirements, as well as Imerys specific requirements, associated with plant operation.
  • To proactively improve safety standards and roll out initiatives.
  • To ensure full compliance with Environmental standards and maintain accreditation to ISO14000 : 2015 certification.
  • Timely reporting of any incidents and recording in the company Enablon database
  • To manage and coordinate all areas of calcining and surface treated calcined production operations, aiming for optimisation of costs year on year.
  • To implement short and long term plans associated with local 4 yearly shutdowns and more global events (i. e.) .
  • To liaise and communicate with a wide range of people within the business including commercial team, customers, members of the community and regulatory bodies.
  • Liaise effectively with all other IML departments with a team spirit and actively collaborate with all other members of the operations team to strive for "collective success".
  • Ensure that accurate and up to date process reporting, internal records and statutory documentation is maintained.
  • Quality
  • Produce to agreed specifications & maintain the quality system and ensure that accreditation to ISO 9001 is maintained.
  • RCA and reporting of any customer complaints
  • Financial
  • Preparation, review & present operations annual Opex and Cap Ex budgets
  • Preparation, review & present operations monthly cost reviews
  • Deliver budget (or better).
  • People Management
  • Manage recruit, train, coach and develop employees.
  • Lead by example and motivate employees.
  • Prepare and implement development plans (PDPs), for key employees.
  • Prepare succession plans (OPR).
  • Operational Projects
  • Ensure capital projects are thoroughly prepared, reviewed, challenged via Hazop process, prioritised and best practices applied to Project management.
  • Organise and maintain a continuous improvement process, aiming for operational excellence. (I Cube) (Must haves) (Inergise).
  • Ensure that the relevant plant reporting and KPIs are implemented and tracked for HK3 / Polarite operations.
  • Ensure that HK3 operations are part of all relevant IMERYS internal networks, and in particular that key employees have regular communication with their Imerys counterparts, and make sure expertise available in the IML operations be made available to the rest of IMERYS community when needed.

Essential

  • To hold or be willing to gain Safety, Health and Environment NVQ4/Level 6 Diploma QCF. qualification or similar.(NEBOSH)
  • Proven knowledge and experience of working under UK Safety and Environmental legislation, and IMERYS company protocols and procedures.
  • Experience in management of operations, maintenance, and project management.
  • Extensive and proven management experience within the mineral processing industry and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience in leading, managing, developing and motivating employees.
  • Proven ability to manage financial aspects of the role including budgeting, cost control and capital expenditure.
  • Proven ability to make dynamic decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient in G Suite MS office and other IT skills ERPs (i. e.) SAP
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Public Relations knowledge/experience.
  • Technical understanding of mineral characteristics and qualities.
  • Mineral processing (Calcining) knowledge of Kaolin.
  • Good understanding of quality requirements for Industrial Minerals markets.
  • Member of relevant professional body (i. e.) Institute Of Management.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma understanding
