A small but established independent accountancy practice is seeking a qualified accountant to join its growing team in a pivotal position, acting as the link between the Directors and the wider accounts team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into, or further develop within, a management role while remaining hands-on with a varied portfolio of SME clients.

The role combines accounts compliance with client advisory work, supporting businesses with everything from statutory reporting through to outsourced finance functions and strategic guidance.

Youll mentor junior team members, oversee workflow and play a key role in maintaining high levels of client service while supporting the continued growth of the practice.

  • Role Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their primary point of contact.
  • Review statutory accounts prepared by junior team members and provide technical support where required.
  • Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Review and prepare corporation tax returns and other compliance work.
  • Support clients with management accounts, financial reporting and outsourced finance functions.
  • Build strong client relationships, providing commercial advice and practical solutions to support business growth.
  • Mentor, coach and develop AAT and ACCA trainees, reviewing work and providing constructive feedback.
  • Plan and prioritise workflow across the team to ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and enhance client service.
  • Work closely with the Directors, helping to oversee the day-to-day running of client work and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
  • Personal Requirements
  • ACA or ACCA qualified.
  • Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice is essential.
  • Strong technical knowledge of statutory accounts preparation and general practice compliance.
  • Experience reviewing work and supporting or managing junior team members.
  • Confident communicating directly with clients and building long-term professional relationships.
  • Commercially minded with an interest in developing advisory skills alongside compliance work.
  • Organised, proactive and capable of managing multiple deadlines.
  • Experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero or Quick Books would be advantageous.
