Finance Manager / Financial Controller – Permanent – based in Market Deeping, PE6 (Hybrid Option)
Job Purpose
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced finance professional to take full ownership of the finance function across a growing legal group comprising two distinct businesses.
This is a standalone finance position, reporting directly to the Directors and covering the full spectrum of financial operations.
You will be responsible for ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, regulatory compliance and effective financial management, while also having the opportunity to shape and develop the function.
The role is primarily based in Market Deeping, with one day per week in Leicester.
Hybrid working will be available following successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly management accounts for both trading entities.
- Manage cashflow forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis.
- Partner with the Senior Management Team on financial performance and strategic planning.
- Prepare year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants and auditors.
- SRA Compliance & Client Accounts
- Take full responsibility for SRA client account management and reconciliations.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and financial regulations.
- Maintain robust financial controls, processes and audit trails across client and office accounts.
- Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage the day-to-day use of Xero across both businesses.
- Use CLIO case management software to maintain accurate and integrated financial information.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems.
- General Finance Operations
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Complete bank reconciliations across office and client accounts.
- Oversee and coordinate payroll.
- Undertake other finance responsibilities appropriate to the role.
Person Specification

- Confident communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- Able to take ownership and use initiative in a fast-paced professional environment.

Experience
- Experience within a legal accounts environment in an England and Wales law firm.
- Strong working knowledge of SRA or CLC Accounts Rules, with demonstrable practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with CLIO case management software.
- Proficiency in Xero.
- Candidates may be part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience.
- Previous experience managing a standalone finance function would be highly advantageous.
