Lead Electrical Engineer
Our client, a prominent player in the transmission and distribution sector, is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer - 132k V to join their dynamic team.
This permanent role focuses on delivering key high-voltage substation projects, bolstering the UK's power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the production and review of high-voltage electrical designs from feasibility through to detailed design.
- Develop design solutions for substation new builds, refurbishments, and reinforcement projects.
- Coordinate and manage external design consultants for quality and timely delivery.
- Work in collaboration with civil, cable, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Engage with client design authorities and stakeholders to secure approvals.
- Apply expertise across protection systems, earthing designs, plant selection, and network integration.
- Champion safety-by-design principles in all project stages.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Job Requirements
β’ Essential
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven experience in delivering high-voltage electrical design projects within power, utilities, or infrastructure settings.
- Strong understanding of substation design principles and high-voltage systems.
- Experience with projects involving switchgear, transformers, cables, and electrical plant.
- Knowledge of electrical safety legislation and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and support project delivery teams.
β’ Desirable
- Experience within DNO, ICP, Transmission & Distribution, or regulated utility environments.
- Chartered status, or actively working towards it.
- Experience securing design approvals from network operators or regulatory bodies is beneficial.
- Experience managing external consultants, design partners, or multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of protection systems, earthing studies, or network analysis.
