A leading privately owned Building Services Consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its Nottingham office.
The business delivers Building Services solutions across a diverse range of projects and sectors, working from early feasibility through to detailed and fully coordinated designs for installation.
You'll join a multidisciplinary team with a strong focus on technical quality, collaboration and continued professional development.
The Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will provide technical support and contribute to the delivery of electrical building services projects across RIBA Stages 0-5.
Working alongside Building Services Designers, Revit Technicians, Building Physicists and Document Controllers, you'll be involved in projects from initial feasibility through to detailed and fully coordinated designs for installation.
The role will include
- Producing detailed electrical building services designs
- Delivering coordinated designs alongside colleagues from other disciplines
- Assisting with the development of project design strategies
- Preparing electrical load calculations and supporting utility connection applications
- Undertaking feasibility studies and site surveys
- Reviewing subcontractor design drawings and technical submissions
- Carrying out site quality and legislative inspections and preparing associated reports
- Reviewing and quality-checking designs, drawings and documentation prior to issue
- Ensuring work complies with relevant industry design guides, British Standards and Building Regulations
- Supporting the delivery of projects and leading small multidisciplinary teams where required
- Supervising and mentoring junior engineers and apprentices
- Attending client, design team and project meetings
- Maintaining strong professional relationships with clients, consultants, contractors and colleagues
- Keeping up to date with relevant industry regulations, standards and design practices
Requirements
The successful Electrical Design Engineer will ideally have
- A Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
- Experience within electrical building services design
- Proficiency with relevant electrical design and calculation software
- Understanding of Building Services design and multidisciplinary coordination
- Good knowledge of relevant British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and work to agreed deadlines
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff would be beneficial
- Professional membership of a relevant engineering institution is desirable
