Debbie Burbage Recruitment is delighted to be working exclusively with an established Northampton based organisation to recruit a Senior Finance Assistant / Management Accountant to take responsibility for the preparation of management accounts for a number of their trading and non-trading entities. Reporting to the Head of Accounting, this is a varied and hands-on finance role with responsibility for the preparation and review of management accounts across the business. You will be involved in the full month-end process, taking ownership of key areas of the accounts and providing detailed analysis to ensure accurate and meaningful financial information is available to the business. The role also offers exposure to VAT, intercompany accounting, year-end audit and wider finance activities, making it a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and being involved across the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including reporting across multiple cost centres
- Complete detailed month-end analysis, including accruals and prepayments, company credit card analysis, balance sheet reconciliations and P&L reviews
- Review expenditure and identify potential cost savings and areas requiring further investigation
- Undertake quarterly analysis of sales and cost of goods data, making appropriate provisions for potential liabilities or losses
- Prepare and submit the Group VAT return
- Reconcile intercompany balances and prepare relevant disclosures
- Support the year-end audit process, including preparing schedules, responding to auditor queries and assisting with tax packs
- Keep up to date with relevant legislation and regulations affecting the business and finance function
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Finance team, sharing knowledge and providing support where required
- Undertake additional finance duties and projects as required by the Head of Accounting
Candidate
We are looking for someone with strong hands-on accounting experience who is comfortable producing management accounts and has a thorough understanding of the nominal ledger, journals, reconciliations and the month-end process. Experience gained within a manufacturing or stock-controlled environment is essential, as is previous involvement in the year-end audit process. You may be qualified by experience, ideally with at least five years in a similar role, or have achieved an AAT Level 3 qualification. You will need to be confident using Excel, including VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, SUMIF and IF statements. Previous experience of Sage 200 would be helpful, although this is not essential as full training can be provided. Just as importantly, you will be methodical, organised and have excellent attention to detail. You will be comfortable managing deadlines and your own workload, while also enjoying being part of a wider finance team and supporting colleagues when needed. Professionalism, discretion and confidentiality are also important within this role.
Salary: £35,000 - c£38,000 per annum depending on experience
Hours: 39 hour working week, with an early finish on a Friday
Holidays: 28 days including statutory days.
