Hays Accountancy & Finance is delighted to be partnering with a well-established and growing independent accountancy practice in Teesside as they look to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practice professional who is looking to take on a broad and varied role, combining technical accounting responsibilities with client management, staff development and involvement in the continued growth of a successful business.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a key role in delivering an outstanding service to a diverse portfolio of clients while helping to support and develop junior members of the team.

Your new role
As a Senior Accountant, you will take responsibility for managing client relationships, reviewing work produced by junior colleagues and ensuring the delivery of high-quality accounting and advisory services.

Key duties will include

  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Preparation of management accounts, VAT returns and corporation tax computations.
  • Managing a varied portfolio of clients and acting as a trusted point of contact.
  • Reviewing the work of junior team members and providing coaching, guidance and support.
  • Supporting workflow management and helping to ensure client deadlines are met.
  • Assisting with client onboarding and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting wider business development activities and contributing to future growth.
  • What you'll need to succeed
    The successful candidate will ideally have:
  • ACA, ACCA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong technical accounting and tax compliance knowledge.
  • Previous experience reviewing work and mentoring more junior colleagues.
  • Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero, Quick Books or similar.
