I'm working on a broad in-house tax leadership role sitting within a sizeable privately-held business.

The mandate spans day-to-day compliance ownership through to shaping the group's longer-term tax governance and risk posture, a genuine mix of technical delivery and strategic input.

  • Governance & Risk
  • Build out and embed a robust tax governance and controls framework group-wide
  • Run periodic risk reviews to surface exposure areas and tighten controls
  • Own reconciliation between tax filings, management accounts and statutory reporting
  • Take the lead on tax disclosures within the group's statutory accounts
  • Compliance & HMRC Relationship
  • Hold end-to-end responsibility for corporation tax, VAT, CIS, withholding tax and property tax compliance across a multi-entity structure
  • Act as the group's main contact for HMRC — enquiries, disclosures, compliance reviews
  • Take a hands-on role on the more technically complex or higher-risk filings, while overseeing the rest across all entities
  • Strategic & Transactional Input
  • Support M&A activity, refinancing and group restructuring from a tax angle
  • Feed into tax planning work — capital allowances, group relief, loss utilisation, interest restriction rules, deal structuring
  • Track legislative and case law developments and translate the impact for the business
  • Work closely alongside the CFO, finance leadership, and external advisers on significant matters
  • People & Influence
  • Line manage and develop a junior tax team member
  • Deliver tax training across finance and non-finance functions to raise wider awareness
  • Drive ongoing improvement of tax processes, systems and reporting

What We're Looking For

  • ACA and/or CTA qualified
  • 5+ years' PQE within a large or complex corporate environment
  • Comfortable holding your own with senior stakeholders — able to influence and push back where needed
  • Strong technical base across corporation tax, VAT, CIS and property tax
  • Direct experience dealing with HMRC, auditors and external advisers
  • Office-based five days
