Our client, a leading engineering consultancy within the power and utilities sector, is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Manager to join their growing team.

This permanent opportunity offers the chance to lead the successful delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects, including 400k V substation developments, supporting the UK's transition to a sustainable energy future.

Key

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of large-scale 400k V substation projects, ensuring that scope, programme, budget, quality, and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating engineering, design, commercial, planning and stakeholder activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and providing regular project updates, risk reporting and performance reviews.
  • Develop and manage detailed project programmes, resource plans, budgets and forecasts, ensuring effective project controls are implemented and maintained.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate project risks and opportunities, driving proactive solutions to technical, commercial and programme challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, CDM requirements, client standards and quality management processes, whilst promoting a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Support business development activities, contributing to bids, proposals and strategic client engagement initiatives as required.
  • Mentor and develop junior project management professionals, promoting best practice and continuous improvement across the project delivery team.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will bring significant project management experience within the transmission and distribution sector, with a proven track record of delivering high-value substation projects, preferably at 400k V level.

  • Demonstrable experience managing large-scale power transmission or high-voltage substation projects within a consultancy, contractor or utility environment.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, governance processes and project controls.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex stakeholder environments.
  • Excellent commercial awareness, including budget management, change control and contract administration.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and UK transmission network projects would be advantageous.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • Professional accreditation such as APM, PRINCE2, PMP or Chartered status is desirable.
