This South London Authority are looking for a Scrutiny Officer. Details of the role are:

We are seeking an experienced Scrutiny Officer/Democratic Services Officer to support the Council's Scrutiny function.

The successful candidate will have recent local government experience and be confident working in a political environment, supporting Members, Chairs and senior officers.

To be responsible to the Corporate Governance Manager for

  • Providing specific support to any scrutiny panel as required.
  • Supporting the Overview and Scrutiny function in holding the Executive and partners to account including undertaking reviews and in depth work.

Main Duties

1) To provide professional advice to politicians, council officers and the public on all scrutiny issues.

2) To support the Corporate Governance Manager in the training of council officers in scrutiny matters.

3) Prepare and present repots as required to scrutiny panels, Overview & Scrutiny Committee or other bodies as necessary.

To be responsible for assuring the quality of reports written by other chief officers, returning them where necessary with advice on how to improve them.

4) Give high level scrutiny advice and support to lead Members, the Chair of Overview and Scrutiny, Scrutiny Chairs, the Leader and chief officers.

5) To attend meetings in the Council buildings and at outside locations both during the day and in the evenings as necessary.

To provide cover for any scrutiny meetings as required.
