Haymarket Management is looking for a reliable and experienced Maintenance Operative to support our residential apartment buildings across Liverpool.

This is a varied, hands-on role covering general repairs, routine building checks and planned maintenance.

You will work closely with our Maintenance Manager and Block Management team to keep our buildings safe, well maintained and presentable.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out general repairs and maintenance within communal areas.
  • Complete basic joinery, plumbing, decorating and minor building works.
  • Inspect buildings and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Carry out routine fire alarm tests and other scheduled building safety checks.
  • Check fire doors, emergency lighting and communal escape routes.
  • Use and understand common building systems, including fire panels, access control, intercoms, CCTV and smoke ventilation systems.
  • Record completed checks and maintenance work accurately.
  • Respond to maintenance jobs and provide clear updates through our job management system.
  • Meet contractors on site and provide access where required.
  • Keep plant rooms, storage areas and maintenance equipment organised.
  • Report urgent, specialist or compliance-related issues promptly.

Skills and experience

  • Previous experience in a general maintenance, caretaker, facilities or building operative role.
  • Good practical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
  • Competent and confident when using building systems and control panels.
  • Able to follow testing procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Good understanding of health and safety within occupied residential buildings.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone to receive jobs and update records.
  • Reliable, organised and able to manage your own workload.
  • Friendly and professional when dealing with residents, contractors and colleagues.

Experience or qualifications in a recognised trade, such as joinery, plumbing, electrical work or decorating, would be desirable but are not essential.

A full UK driving licence is required. The successful candidate may also be required to take part in an emergency call-out rota, subject to the needs of the role.
