Are you a newly qualified Solicitor or a CILEX Lawyer with litigation practice rights looking to develop your career in contentious property law?
My client is seeking a motivated and ambitious legal professional to join their busy and highly regarded Landlord & Tenant Litigation Department in East Sussex.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience managing a varied caseload while receiving ongoing support, training, and supervision from experienced practitioners.
The department acts for a diverse client base, including private landlords, managing agents, and insurance companies, handling everything from possession proceedings through to defended and more complex landlord and tenant disputes.
The Opportunity
Working alongside experienced fee earners and supported by dedicated case handlers and paralegals, you will play a key role in progressing a wide range of landlord and tenant litigation matters.
This position is ideally suited to a Junior Solicitor, Newly Qualified Solicitor, or CILEX Lawyer who is eager to build their litigation expertise in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing fee-earning work under appropriate supervision
- Assisting with defended and complex landlord and tenant disputes
- Drafting legal documents, applications, pleadings, and correspondence
- Ensuring compliance with court directions, orders, and deadlines
- Progressing cases through to conclusion with increasing autonomy
- Liaising with clients, defendants, solicitors, courts, and managing agents
- Providing regular updates and excellent client service
- Issuing possession claims via the Possession Claims Online system
- Preparing possession, accelerated possession, and warrant applications
- Drafting notices seeking possession
- Preparing instructions for advocates and counsel
- Maintaining accurate case management records and reporting systems
- Supporting the wider team with additional litigation-related tasks
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organised, and keen to develop their legal career.
You will have
- Qualified Solicitor status (NQ or Junior level), or
- CILEX qualification with litigation practice rights
- A good understanding of landlord and tenant law (training can be provided for candidates without direct L&T experience)
- Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and litigation processes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities
- Good IT and case management skills
- The confidence to communicate professionally with clients and third parties
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- A proactive, adaptable, and team-oriented approach
- A commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and client care
