Pro Tax is delighted to be working with a leading accountancy and advisory practice seeking a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join its growing tax team in Ipswich. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Personal Tax Senior or existing Assistant Manager looking to manage their own portfolio, take on greater responsibility and build leadership experience within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
The role is predominantly focused on private client tax compliance, offering the chance to work directly with a varied portfolio of individuals, business owners, landlords and high-net-worth clients while being supported by a wider team of managers, trainees and tax specialists.
The Opportunity
- You'll take responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 70-80 clients, acting as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for personal tax matters.
- With support from junior team members preparing work, you'll focus on reviewing returns, managing client relationships, addressing technical queries and ensuring deadlines are met.
- The portfolio offers a broad range of private client work including:
- Personal tax compliance
- Directors and shareholders
- Landlords and property investors
- Partnerships
- Trusts
- High-net-worth individuals
- While experience across all areas would be advantageous, the team is flexible and welcomes candidates with strong personal tax experience who are keen to broaden their technical exposure. If you don't have experience in all of those areas, the client base can be tailored for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage your own portfolio of private clients
- Review personal tax compliance work prepared by junior team members
- Build long-term relationships with clients and provide a high level of service
- Handle client queries confidently and proactively
- Ensure compliance deadlines are met across your portfolio
- Review complex tax returns and related documentation
- Support and mentor junior members of the team
- Assist with workflow management and allocation of work

- Collaborate with wider tax specialists when required on more complex matters
What We're Looking For
- Essential
- Previous experience within an accountancy practice or tax consultancy environment
- Strong personal tax compliance experience
- Experience managing client relationships independently
- Ability to review work accurately and manage competing deadlines
- Desirable
- ATT or CTA qualification
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
