Elevate Search is partnering with a successful and growing business in Hertford to recruit an experienced Financial Controller.
This is a genuinely hands-on Financial Controller role for someone who enjoys leading a finance team whilst remaining close to the numbers.
We are looking for an established FC with strong experience across management reporting, month-end, statutory accounts, external audit, VAT and financial controls, ideally with experience using Sage.
This isn't a strategic or commercially focused finance position.
The successful candidate will be comfortable rolling their sleeves up and getting into the detail when required – whether that's posting a journal, completing a balance sheet reconciliation or helping the team get month-end over the line.
Key responsibilities will include
- Ownership and delivery of monthly management reporting.
- Leading the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Producing and reviewing management accounts.
- Preparing and reviewing journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Ownership and review of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Preparation and review of VAT returns and ensuring VAT compliance.
- Taking ownership of statutory accounts.
- Leading the annual external audit and acting as a key contact for the auditors.
- Maintaining robust financial controls across the business.
- Managing, mentoring and developing the finance team.
- Improving financial reporting, processes and controls.
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business.
- Remaining hands-on and supporting operational finance activities whenever required.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate
- Established experience operating at Financial Controller level.
- Strong management reporting and month-end experience.
- Excellent financial control and balance sheet knowledge.
- Experience preparing statutory accounts and leading external audits.
- Strong VAT experience.
- Proven experience managing and developing a finance team.
- A genuinely hands-on approach to accounting.
- Experience using Sage accounting systems.
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification, or significant relevant experience.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, operational environment.
Above all, you'll be an experienced finance leader who is not too proud to post a journal, complete a balance sheet reconciliation or work alongside the team when required.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Financial Controller who enjoys owning the numbers, leading from the front and making sure the fundamentals of the finance function are done exceptionally well.
Due to the requirements of the business, candidates who are immediately available or able to start at short notice are particularly encouraged to apply.
