Structural Engineer
Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid Working Available)
A well-established, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to recruit a Structural Engineer to join its growing Structural Engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Structural Engineer with 2+ years' experience who is looking to develop their technical expertise, work on a varied portfolio of projects, and progress towards Chartership within a supportive and collaborative environment.
You'll be involved in delivering structural engineering solutions across projects from concept through to completion, working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams on a broad range of developments.
The Role
You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors including commercial, residential, industrial, research & development, energy and refurbishment schemes, gaining exposure to all stages of the design process.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
- Produce structural designs in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
- Carry out structural calculations and analysis using industry-standard software such as Tekla Structural Designer and TEDDS.
- Deliver practical, cost-effective and innovative engineering solutions.
- Project Delivery
- Work closely with architects, contractors, developers and multidisciplinary design teams.
- Assist with project planning, technical coordination and reporting.
- Attend design meetings and liaise with clients and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Support projects from feasibility through to construction.
- Technical Development
- Develop innovative structural solutions to engineering challenges.
- Keep up to date with current design standards, legislation and sustainable engineering practices.
- Work towards Chartered Engineer status (IStruct E or ICE) with structured support and mentoring.
- Site Inspections
- Undertake site visits and inspections to review construction progress and ensure compliance with design intent.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during construction.
- Ensure designs meet current UK regulations and health and safety requirements.
About You
Essential
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years' experience within Structural Engineering
- Experience designing in steel, concrete, timber and masonry.
- Proficient with structural design software such as Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and UK design standards.
- Knowledge of foundation design and geotechnical considerations.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (IStruct E or ICE).
- Experience working on a wide variety of building structures.
- Confident working directly with clients and project teams.
