This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional to join a growing and purpose-led organisation in a broad and commercially focused role. Working closely with the Head of Finance and senior leadership team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the finance function while contributing to strategic decision-making across the wider organisation. This position offers significant exposure to financial control, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and business partnering.
The Role
- Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, you will support the delivery of financial management across the organisation, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting and meaningful insight for key stakeholders.
- You will oversee the day-to-day finance operation, manage a small team and work closely with colleagues across the business to support projects, financial planning and organisational objectives.
- This is a varied role that offers a blend of operational finance, team leadership and strategic involvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance and Senior Management Team with management information, reporting and financial analysis.
- Manage and develop transactional finance staff, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of financial transactions.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the finance function.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and provide financial insight to support key business decisions.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and medium to long-term financial planning activities.
- Take ownership of the financial aspects of projects and work closely with non-finance stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit funding and grant claims where required.
- Review and strengthen financial controls, policies and procedures.
- Support commercial modelling, financial analysis and business case preparation.
- Assist with year-end accounts preparation and audit processes.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors and implement audit recommendations.
- Prepare financial reports and papers for senior leadership meetings.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and financial reporting.
Candidate Profile
Hays are seeking an ambitious and commercially aware finance professional who enjoys working in a varied role and partnering with stakeholders across an organisation.
- Essential: Qualified ACCA, CIMA or CA accountant.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a similar accounting or finance position.
- Strong management accounting, budgeting and forecasting experience.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring finance staff.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the finance function.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Desirable: Experience within the public, private or not-for-profit sectors.
- Knowledge of Sage accounting software.
- Experience preparing accounts under Charity SORP.
- Project accounting and grant funding experience supporting governance, board reporting or audit activities.
