A leading environmental consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Hydraulic Modeller to join their Exeter team. This is a technical role suited to an experienced flood risk professional with strong hydraulic modelling experience who is looking to take on more responsibility across complex projects.
You will work across a range of flood risk and water environment projects, undertaking hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessments and technical reporting. The role will also involve supporting project delivery, developing modelling approaches and working closely with clients, regulators and other technical disciplines.
The Role
- Deliver 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling projects using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW and/or InfoWorks ICM
- Develop and review hydraulic models, including model build, verification, calibration and sensitivity testing
- Undertake flood risk assessments and technical studies for a range of development and infrastructure projects
- Produce technical reports, drawings and flood mapping
- Interpret hydrological and hydraulic data and provide clear technical recommendations
- Prepare scopes and methodologies for modelling projects
- Manage elements of projects, including budgets, programmes and technical deliverables
- Liaise with clients, regulators, local authorities and other consultants
- Provide technical support and mentoring to junior members of the team
- Contribute to business development and help identify opportunities for further modelling work
About You
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geography or a related discipline
- Strong professional experience in hydraulic modelling and flood risk
- Practical experience with Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM or similar software
- Good understanding of hydrology, flood risk assessment and drainage principles
- Experience producing technical reports and presenting findings to clients
- Comfortable taking technical ownership of projects and supporting less experienced engineers
- Strong communication and project management skills
- Ideally working towards or holding Chartered status
