Probate Team Manager
Location: Derby
Salary: Up to £50,000
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Probate Team Manager on behalf of a respected and growing legal services organisation specialising in Wills, Probate and Estate Planning.
This position offers a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to lead a team of Probate Legal Advisors, combining technical expertise with strong people leadership to deliver excellent client outcomes and departmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Manage, motivate and develop a team of up to 8 Probate Legal Advisors.
- Drive performance against team targets and KPIs.
- Conduct regular one-to-ones, performance reviews and coaching sessions.
- Identify training needs and support ongoing professional development.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding and retention of team members.
- Work collaboratively with other managers to ensure departmental success.
- Legal & Compliance
- Provide technical supervision and support to the team.
- Maintain a small personal caseload of probate matters.
- Ensure compliance with SRA regulations and internal policies.
- Monitor file quality, matter progression and risk management.
- Keep abreast of legislative and industry changes.
- Client Service & Performance
- Ensure clients receive a high-quality, compassionate service throughout their probate journey.
- Support the resolution of client complaints when required.
- Monitor work-in-progress, billing and team capacity.
- Hold regular matter reviews to ensure files progress efficiently.
- Produce accurate performance reporting and implement improvements where needed.
About You
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor (with current practising certificate) or Chartered Legal Executive (FCILEx).
- Strong experience in Probate and Estate Administration.
- Previous supervisory, team leadership or management experience.
- Excellent knowledge of SRA regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop others.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
