We are recruiting on behalf of a leading international engineering business for an experienced Technical Service Manager to join its Rail & Marine division.
This is a remote-based role with significant UK and international travel, ideal for an experienced technical service or engineering professional who enjoys working directly with customers, engineers and operational teams.
The Role
You will lead and coordinate technical service activities including maintenance, repairs, overhauls and commissioning, while managing a team of service engineers and technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate service, maintenance, repair, overhaul and commissioning activities.
- Manage, mentor and develop a team of Service Engineers and Technicians.
- Plan resources, schedules and technical activities to meet customer requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on mechanical and electrical drive systems.
- Manage service costs, profitability, spare parts and technical resources.
- Maintain high HSE, quality and compliance standards.
- Develop strong relationships with key customers and provide technical support.
- Resolve complex technical and operational issues.
- Identify opportunities for service contracts, upgrades and additional services.
- Monitor KPIs and prepare management reports.
- Carry out regular customer and site visits across the UK and internationally.
- Work closely with internal engineering, operations and commercial teams.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Technical Service Manager, Service Engineering Manager, Field Service Manager, Marine Service Manager or Engineering Manager with:
- Degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' experience in technical service, field engineering, maintenance or aftermarket operations.
- Proven experience managing technical/service teams.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical drive systems.
- Excellent technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong customer relationship and communication abilities.
- Commercial awareness and ideally experience in service sales.
- Experience within Rail, Marine, heavy engineering, propulsion, power transmission or similar industries is highly desirable.
- Full UK driving license.
- Flexibility and willingness to undertake regular UK and international travel.
