We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Commercial Pump Engineer to join our specialist team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of pump systems within commercial, industrial, and public sector environments across the UK. This role demands a strong technical understanding of pump mechanics, hydraulics, electrical control systems, and a commitment to delivering efficient and reliable solutions.
You will work on critical infrastructure, ensuring the optimal performance of essential pump systems, from water boosting and drainage to HVAC circulation and specialised industrial applications.
The Role
- Installation & Commissioning: Install, test, and commission various types of commercial and industrial pump systems (e.g., booster sets, circulation pumps, submersible pumps, drainage pumps, fire pumps, vacuum pumps) according to specifications, schematics, and relevant UK standards.
- Preventative Maintenance: Conduct comprehensive planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on pump systems, including inspections, lubrication, vibration analysis, and performance checks, to ensure longevity and prevent breakdowns.
- Fault Diagnosis & Repair: Accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control faults in pump systems. Perform efficient repairs, including motor replacements, bearing changes, seal replacements, impeller repairs, and control panel troubleshooting.
- System Optimisation: Identify opportunities to optimise pump system efficiency and performance, recommending upgrades or adjustments where appropriate.
- Electrical & Control Systems: Work confidently with associated electrical components, control panels, Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), and Building Management System (BMS) interfaces related to pump operation.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all work adheres strictly to current UK health and safety regulations, relevant British Standards, Water Regulations (WRAS), and industry best practices.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of all work performed, including detailed service reports, fault logs, material usage, and time spent on projects.
- Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Communicate effectively with clients, site managers, facilities teams, and other trades, providing technical advice and ensuring smooth project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Emergency Response: Participate in an on-call rota for emergency pump breakdowns, responding promptly and effectively to minimise client disruption.
- Tool & Equipment Management: Ensure all tools, testing equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) are maintained, calibrated, and used safely and correctly.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Commercial/Industrial Pump Engineer or a similar role.
- Proven experience with a diverse range of pump types and applications in commercial or industrial settings.
- Experience in fault finding on both mechanical and electrical aspects of pump systems.
- Familiarity with pump control systems, including pressure switches, flow switches, and VSDs.
- Skills & Attributes:
- Technical Expertise: Strong mechanical aptitude combined with solid electrical diagnostic and repair skills.
- Hydraulic Knowledge: Good understanding of hydraulic principles, pump curves, and system design related to fluid transfer.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional diagnostic capabilities and a methodical approach to fault resolution.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to work, ensuring precision and accuracy in all tasks.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction.
- Autonomy & Teamwork: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Organisational Skills: Strong ability to manage time, prioritise workloads, and meet project deadlines.
