Structural Engineer required to join our growing client, a well-established engineering consultancy based in Colchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join a busy and expanding team, working on a diverse range of residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will be involved in the design and delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to construction, working closely with clients, architects, contractors and other members of the engineering team.

You will have a strong technical understanding of structural engineering principles and be confident producing and reviewing structural designs and calculations.

The Role

  • Undertaking structural design work across a varied range of residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure projects
  • Designing and developing structural solutions from concept through to construction
  • Undertaking structural calculations and design checks where required
  • Working on foundations, steelwork, reinforced concrete and timber structures
  • Producing and reviewing detailed structural drawings and technical information
  • Working closely with technicians to develop accurate construction and detailing drawings
  • Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants to coordinate structural requirements
  • Reviewing structural information and identifying design requirements, clashes or potential issues
  • Providing technical support and design solutions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Attending site visits and inspections where required
  • Preparing technical information for planning, tender and construction stages
  • Ensuring structural designs comply with relevant UK codes, standards and Building Regulations
  • Maintaining accurate project records and technical documentation
  • Working to project deadlines while maintaining a high standard of technical accuracy
  • Applying relevant Health & Safety requirements, including CDM Regulations
  • The Person
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Structural Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience working within a structural engineering consultancy
  • Sound knowledge of structural engineering principles and design
  • Experience designing structures using steel, reinforced concrete and timber
  • Good understanding of foundations and structural elements
  • Experience producing or reviewing structural calculations and technical designs
  • Must be proficient in Auto CAD with good general IT skills
  • Experience with structural design software such as Tekla Tedds and/or CADS would be advantageous
  • Good knowledge of relevant UK codes of practice, Building Regulations and design standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, architects, contractors and other consultants
  • Experience working on residential, commercial, industrial or infrastructure developments.
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a wider engineering team
  • A flexible and practical approach to design and problem solving
  • Full UK driving licence
