We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 7 Sexual Health Nurse to join the Sexual Health Hub in Chester City Centre on a 3-month contract.

The Cheshire West and Chester Sexual Health Hub provides free, confidential and accessible sexual health services across the local community.

As a Level 3 Integrated Contraception and Sexual Health (ICASH) service, we provide contraception, STI testing and treatment, HIV clinical care, Genitourinary Medicine (GUM), and Community Sexual and Reproductive Health (c SRH).

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sexual health professional to work as an autonomous practitioner, delivering routine and specialist clinics while providing high-quality, patient-centred care.

The role will involve travel across Chester and West Cheshire to support community clinics, therefore a driving licence and access to a car are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake autonomous clinical assessments and consultations for patients with routine and complex sexual health needs.
  • Provide specialist sexual health advice, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and appropriate onward referral.
  • Take comprehensive sexual and medical histories and accurately document clinical findings.
  • Recognise normal anatomy and identify potential differential diagnoses, referring patients for further investigation or specialist medical review where appropriate.
  • Support the delivery of contraception services, including education and advice around all methods of contraception and LARC.
  • Provide clinical leadership and act as a positive role model for Clinical Practitioners and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support the outreach team by planning, leading and delivering outreach sessions in line with service requirements.
  • Act up for the Nurse Manager when required.
  • Provide mentorship, supervision and specialist training to nursing, medical staff, students and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to education programmes and specialist teaching sessions delivered within the service and to external agencies.
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical standards, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a safe clinical environment, identifying and escalating risks appropriately.
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving children and vulnerable adults, in line with current legislation and local policies.
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, NHS services and external agencies to improve sexual health education and access to services.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to working hours, including occasional late evenings and weekends, to support accessible patient services.

About You

We are looking for a Registered General Nurse or Midwife who has completed the relevant sexual health diplomas and has significant experience working within sexual health services.

You will be a confident and autonomous practitioner with excellent clinical judgement and communication skills.

As a Band 7 clinician, you will demonstrate strong leadership, mentorship and decision-making abilities while working collaboratively within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

  • Able to work autonomously while recognising when specialist referral is required.
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service.
  • Able to travel between community clinic locations across Chester and West Cheshire.
