Job Role – Mechanical Fitter
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join an established and growing industrial business based in Carlisle.
The company is continuing to grow and is looking for a mechanically skilled engineer to join its maintenance team.
You will be responsible for keeping a range of heavy industrial machinery running efficiently, carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer looking for a stable role with a company that offers long-term progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and breakdowns.
- Maintain and repair conveyors, crushers, compactors and other heavy industrial machinery.
- Fault-find across mechanical systems and identify the root cause of failures.
- Work with bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, drives and associated equipment.
- Carry out mechanical installations, modifications and improvements.
- Complete routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Minimise machinery downtime and ensure production equipment remains operational.
- Work closely with the wider engineering and operations teams.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and follow site health & safety procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer or similar.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance experience.
- Experience working within a heavy industrial, manufacturing or similar environment.
- Mechanically biased engineering background.
- Good understanding of mechanical systems, including bearings, belts, chains and gearboxes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering team.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Willingness to work a 4 on 4 off, 7am–7pm shift pattern.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within heavy industry or industrial manufacturing.
- Hydraulic maintenance experience.
- Experience working on conveyors, crushers or similar processing equipment.
- Previous experience working within a fast-paced production environment.
