Senior Mechanical Engineer - Building Services

Location: Cardiff / Bristol
Type: Full-time, Permanent

Overview

An established building services consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team in either Cardiff or Bristol.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with at least five years' experience in mechanical building services design who is looking to lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and work closely with clients to deliver innovative, low-carbon engineering solutions across a diverse range of sectors.

The successful candidate will have proven project leadership experience, a strong understanding of UK building services legislation, regulations and industry standards, and technical expertise in HVAC, heating and cooling load calculations, public health design, plantroom design, BMS integration, and sustainable technologies including heat pumps and renewables.

Membership with CIBSE (or working towards it), together with progress towards Chartered Engineer status and proficiency in CAD, Magic CAD and BIM software, would be highly advantageous.

  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver coordinated designs.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs, specifications, and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design process across all RIBA stages, ensuring high-quality and innovative solutions.

  • Oversee quality assurance procedures and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical building services design.
  • Proven experience in leading projects and managing engineering teams.
  • Membership of CIBSE (or actively working towards membership).
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status is highly desirable.
