We're recruiting for an experienced Head of Legal Practice (HoLP) to join a growing residential conveyancing business based in Bromsgrove. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced conveyancing professional who can combine strong technical expertise with regulatory oversight, people leadership and commercial awareness.

As the firm's designated Head of Legal Practice, you'll take responsibility for legal quality, governance, compliance and risk while leading and developing the legal team.

The Role

  • Act as the firm's approved Head of Legal Practice under the CLC regulatory framework
  • Lead legal compliance, governance and risk management
  • Ensure compliance with CLC regulatory requirements and relevant legislation
  • Supervise and support lawyers and conveyancers
  • Provide technical guidance on complex residential conveyancing matters
  • Review high-risk and technically challenging transactions
  • Oversee complaints, file audits and quality assurance
  • Maintain effective AML, sanctions, source of funds and fraud prevention controls
  • Act as a key contact for CLC inspections, audits and regulatory reviews
  • Lead, mentor and develop the legal team
  • Improve legal processes and operational efficiency
  • Support the implementation of legal technology and automation
  • Monitor performance, workloads and operational KPIs
  • Champion high standards of client care

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum five years' post-qualification experience
  • Qualification as a Licensed Conveyancer, Solicitor or FCILEx with appropriate conveyancing practice rights
  • Eligibility for approval by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers as Head of Legal Practice
  • Extensive residential conveyancing experience
  • Experience leading and supervising qualified legal professionals
  • Strong understanding of the CLC regulatory framework
  • Experience managing legal compliance and regulatory risk
  • Excellent technical knowledge of residential conveyancing
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Commercial awareness and sound professional judgement

Desirable Experience

  • Previously worked as a Head of Legal Practice
  • Worked within a CLC-regulated practice or Alternative Business Structure
  • Led a residential conveyancing team of 15–20+ fee earners
  • Overseen high-volume residential conveyancing operations
  • Managed CLC inspections or regulatory reviews
  • Managed lender panel relationships
  • Experience with Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • Implemented legal technology, automation or AI
  • Led process and service improvements
