We are a busy, growing, and highly successful consultancy seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Airworthiness & Certification Consultant to join our team.
This role offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in the UK while delivering high-impact consultancy across complex defence and aerospace programmes.
You will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with military and civil regulatory frameworks, shaping strategy, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical
- Deliver expert Airworthiness & Certification consultancy across relevant Military and Civil regulations (MAA, EASA, CAA, FAA, or equivalent).
- Provide technical leadership and assurance on key activities, including:
- Type Certification / Military Type Certification: Certification basis development, compliance demonstration, and managing deviations.
- Design Assurance & Control: Applying systems engineering principles to ensure design integrity and traceability.
- Safety Assessment: Executing and reviewing FHA, FMEA, FTA, and associated safety artefacts.
- Compliance & Standards: Interpreting and applying standards such as EASA CS, FAA FARs, Def Stan 00-970, and related frameworks.
- Configuration Management: Maintaining design documentation, change control, and audit trails.
- Advise clients on meeting complex regulatory and organizational obligations.
- Drive the continuous improvement of internal airworthiness tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Leadership
- Serve as a technical mentor to junior consultants, delivering guidance, feedback, and structured knowledge sharing.
- Support competency development across the team through coaching, training, and peer reviews.
- Exemplify professional standards and core values in all project engagements.
- Client Management
- Build and nurture trusted relationships with clients, regulators, and industry partners.
- Act as a primary technical interface to client Airworthiness Authorities, Certification Bodies, and Design Organisations.
- Translate complex regulatory and technical concepts into clear, actionable business advice.
- Identify organic business growth opportunities and cross-functional improvements within client projects.
- Governance, Quality & Assurance
- Ensure all technical deliverables meet rigorous internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits, assurance reviews, and process optimizations.
- Champion a strong safety culture and commitment to compliance across all engagements.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering Airworthiness & Certification projects within the UK defence or aerospace sectors.
- Deep technical expertise in one or more domain areas: Type Certification, Design Assurance, Safety Assessment (FHA/FMEA/FTA), Regulatory Liaison, or Configuration Management.
- Strong working knowledge of key regulatory frameworks (MAA, EASA, CAA, FAA).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience interfacing directly with clients and regulatory bodies.
- Degree (BEng, BSc, MEng, MSc) in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Pragmatic, analytical problem solver with sharp attention to detail.
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards professional registration (RAe S, IET, IMech E).
- Experience leading small technical teams or discrete work packages in a consultancy environment.
- Familiarity with complex, multi-disciplinary systems in high-integrity environments.
- Exposure to digital tools and data-driven approaches for certification management.
