Senior Electronics Engineer
Bristol – Hybrid Working (3 office days a week)
Monday to Friday
£60,000 - £75,000 DOE
An exciting opportunity for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join a growing hardware team developing innovative, high-quality electronic products.
You'll take a lead role across electronics design, embedded systems and product development, while supporting the wider engineering team with technical guidance and mentoring.
The role is hands-on and will involve taking projects from initial concept through to testing, validation and production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex electronic systems and product platforms.
- Own key hardware areas including embedded controllers, audio, sensors, thermal management, HMI and related firmware interfaces.
- Produce circuit designs, schematics and PCB layouts, ensuring designs are reliable and suitable for manufacture.
- Contribute to embedded firmware development and code reviews using C/C++ and Zephyr RTOS.
- Develop effective testing strategies and support automated testing and CI processes.
- Lead hardware and firmware verification, validation and compliance activities.
- Maintain accurate BOMs, technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Investigate quality issues and drive improvements across products and processes.
- Support risk assessments, DFMEA and engineering controls in line with relevant standards.
- Provide technical input into future platforms, technologies and product roadmaps.
- Build strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Work closely with Quality, Production, Repairs and other technical teams to resolve issues and improve product performance.
- Mentor and support other engineers within the team.
The Ideal Candidate
- Strong experience in electronics engineering, covering analogue, digital and power electronics.
- Proven experience with circuit design, schematic capture and PCB development.
- Experience developing embedded C/C++ firmware, ideally with Zephyr RTOS and modern microcontrollers.
- Knowledge of hardware testing, verification, validation and automated test environments.
- Understanding of EMC and electrical safety requirements, particularly IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2.
- Experience with engineering risk management, DFMEA and regulatory documentation.
- A good understanding of manufacturing, DFM/DFA and supplier management.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- A proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to take ownership of complex projects.
- Experience within medical, assistive or accessibility technology would be advantageous.
