We are currently recruiting for a new insurance brokerage that specialise in commercial insurance solutions including fleet, courier, motor trade, and a wide range of commercial insurance products.

Working with a broad panel of leading insurers, we help businesses protect what matters most while building long-term relationships based on trust and expertise.

As we continue our ambitious growth journey, we're looking for an exceptional Head of Commercial to lead our Commercial team, drive new business growth and develop the next generation of high-performing commercial insurance professionals.

The Role

This is a hands-on leadership role for a proven commercial insurance sales professional with a passion for winning business and developing people.

Reporting directly to the Sales Director, you'll be responsible for leading the Commercial team, driving new business performance, and creating a high-performing sales culture focused on quality, accountability, and exceptional customer outcomes.

You'll lead from the front, setting the standard for sales excellence while coaching, mentoring, and developing the existing team to maximise their potential.

You'll also use your own proven ability to generate and convert commercial insurance opportunities, helping shape our sales strategy and supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and inspire the Commercial team to achieve ambitious new business and income targets.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase high-quality commercial insurance enquiries and maximise conversion.
  • Personally support the acquisition of larger, more complex, or strategically important commercial clients.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the existing Commercial team through regular one-to-one meetings, sales coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Create a high-performance sales culture built around accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify training needs and implement development plans to improve technical knowledge, sales capability, and customer outcomes.
  • Monitor individual and team performance using key sales and quality metrics.
  • Work closely with marketing and senior management to maximise lead generation opportunities and improve lead quality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with insurer partners to improve competitiveness and secure the best outcomes for clients.
  • Ensure all customer interactions comply with FCA regulations and Consumer Duty requirements.
  • Analyse sales performance and management information to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Drive continuous improvement in sales processes, customer journeys, and operational efficiency.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and succession planning as the Commercial team continues to grow.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Significant experience within a commercial insurance brokerage.
  • A proven track record of generating, developing, and winning new commercial insurance business.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or managing high-performing sales teams.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance products across a broad range of sectors.
  • Demonstrable success in achieving and exceeding sales and growth targets.
  • Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify and develop growth opportunities.
  • Experience developing sales strategies and improving conversion performance.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
  • Good understanding of FCA regulations, Consumer Duty and delivering consistently good customer outcomes.

Desirable

  • Cert CII qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience growing and developing a commercial insurance sales function.
  • Existing relationships with insurer partners.
  • Experience implementing sales performance frameworks and coaching programmes.
  • Experienced of Acturis.
