Are you a technically strong accountant looking to take ownership of financial reporting, statutory accounts and financial controls within a purpose-driven organisation?

We're recruiting for an experienced Financial Accountant to join a high-performing finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technical accounting, financial governance and improving processes, whilst working closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll take the lead on financial accounting, statutory reporting, balance sheet integrity and financial controls.

You'll play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining a robust governance framework and providing expert technical accounting advice.

You'll also work closely with senior leadership, external auditors and a range of internal stakeholders to ensure the finance function delivers high-quality reporting and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly financial close process and produce accurate management accounts.
  • Own the balance sheet, ensuring reconciliations are completed, reviewed and maintained to a high standard.
  • Prepare statutory accounts and coordinate the year-end audit process.
  • Maintain and develop financial controls, accounting policies and governance frameworks.
  • Provide technical accounting expertise, ensuring compliance with FRS102 and relevant reporting standards.
  • Lead fixed asset and capital accounting activities.
  • Manage regulatory and statutory financial returns.
  • Oversee tax compliance, including VAT and other relevant tax requirements.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting by providing robust financial analysis and technical guidance.
  • Drive finance systems improvements, automation and reporting enhancements.
  • Present financial information and technical accounting matters to senior stakeholders and committees.

About You

You'll be a qualified accountant or Finalist (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with financial accounting and statutory reporting experience.

  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing external audits.
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls and balance sheet management.
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge (FRS102 experience desirable).
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyse complex financial data.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Experience improving finance processes and reporting.
  • A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.

Experience within housing, property, not-for-profit or another regulated environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
