NET Recruit are delighted to be partnering with a leading engineering and climate solutions organisation who are seeking an Junior Service Technician to join their team in a full-time, in Birmingham area. This is a field-based position offering an excellent opportunity to begin a long-term engineering career with a business that is committed to developing future talent through comprehensive training and industry-recognised qualifications.
This organisation is renowned for delivering high-quality HVAC, refrigeration and climate control solutions across a wide range of commercial and industrial sectors. With continued investment in innovation, technology and employee development, they are looking to appoint a motivated Apprentice Service Technician who is eager to develop their technical expertise while providing exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will join an experienced engineering team and follow a structured apprenticeship programme, working towards achieving Refrigeration and Air Conditioning NVQ Levels 2 and 3 alongside F-Gas certification. Throughout the programme, they will gain hands-on experience supporting planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, commissioning projects and customer service activities while developing the skills required to become a fully qualified Service Technician.

Your Roles and Responsibilities:
While in this position your duties may include but will not be limited to:

  • Assisting experienced engineers with planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on HVAC and climate control equipment across a variety of customer sites.
  • Learning how to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults while supporting repair and maintenance activities to return equipment to full operational performance.
  • Attending customer sites to assist with breakdowns, warranty work, commissioning projects, equipment installations and hire activities.
  • Building strong professional relationships with customers by delivering a courteous, reliable and customer-focused service.
  • Working closely with Service Desk, Sales and Operations teams to ensure effective communication and an outstanding customer experience.
  • Learning to use diagnostic software, engineering drawings, technical specifications and a range of specialist tools to identify faults and complete repairs.
  • Supporting the completion of service reports, maintenance records and work order documentation accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Communicating effectively with Regional Service Managers, Lead Technicians, Field Service Representatives and customers to provide updates and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Studying towards Refrigeration and Air Conditioning NVQ Levels 2 and 3, gaining the technical knowledge and practical experience required to become a qualified engineer.
  • Following company health and safety procedures and engineering standards at all times while working both independently and alongside senior engineers.
  • Participating in a planned standby and call-out rota once fully qualified and F-Gas certified.

What You Will Need to Apply:
The ideal candidate for this role will be enthusiastic about developing a career within engineering and demonstrate a genuine interest in refrigeration, air conditioning or HVAC systems. Previous practical experience within an engineering, manufacturing, construction or mechanical environment would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
Applicants should possess excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn while working both independently and as part of a wider engineering team. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and a proactive approach to delivering excellent customer service will be essential.
Candidates should be comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and be confident learning new technologies, diagnostic software and mobile applications used within field service engineering. A willingness to study towards Refrigeration and Air Conditioning NVQ Levels 2 and 3, together with F-Gas certification, will be required as part of the apprenticeship programme.
The successful individual will be organised, dependable and motivated to build long-term technical expertise while representing the business professionally at customer sites. Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence, possess the right to work in the UK and be willing to participate in a planned standby and call-out rota upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme.
