Our client is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy providing a range of services, including geotechnical, geo-environmental, desk studies, and ground investigations across a range of sectors. We are looking for a highly motivated Lead Geo-Environmental Engineer to lead their Ground Investigation team in Manchester. You will be leading a small team of engineers to deliver high quality Ground Investigation projects of varying scale and complexity. Supported by our geotechnical and land quality specialists, you will be providing technical excellence and sustainable solutions to our clients across a broad range of industries and developments. The Ground Investigation teams are multidisciplinary, covering factual reporting, contaminated land risk assessments and geotechnical appraisal. A good basis in these topics as well as a track record of managing people and demonstrable leadership skills is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Ground Investigation team in Manchester, managing a small group of engineers.
  • Deliver high-quality Ground Investigation projects of varying scale and complexity.
  • Provide technical excellence and sustainable solutions to clients across diverse industries and developments.
  • Collaborate with geotechnical and land quality specialists to support project delivery.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary tasks, including factual reporting, contaminated land risk assessment, and geotechnical appraisal.
  • Manage and mentor team members, demonstrating strong leadership skills.
  • Conduct occasional fieldwork, including training and site visits (approximately 20% of the role).
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards during site activities.
  • Support professional development within the team, including training and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years in relevant industry
  • A relevant degree
  • Relevant chartership or working towards it
  • A good understanding of land contamination risk assessment
  • A good understanding of geotechnical analysis
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proactive and positive attitude
  • Problem solving ability
  • Demonstrable management, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Full driving licence
