This is a key educational leadership role focused on driving excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across vocational and adult learning programmes. You will shape and embed high‑quality pedagogical practice, ensuring tutors and assessors are effectively supported to deliver engaging, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences. Working at the intersection of quality assurance and professional development, you will play a central role in improving learner outcomes and maintaining regulatory compliance. The role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on coaching, observation, and quality improvement activity. You will collaborate closely with delivery teams and senior stakeholders to build a strong culture of reflective practice and continuous improvement. Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of a structured CPD programme to enhance teaching quality, assessment practice, and inclusive learning approaches.
  • Coach, mentor, and support tutors and assessors through regular one‑to‑one sessions, observations, and reflective practice activities.
  • Conduct teaching observations, learning walks, and quality assurance reviews, providing clear, constructive developmental feedback.
  • Lead Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) processes, including sampling, moderation, and standardisation of assessment decisions.
  • Ensure assessment practices are valid, consistent, and fully compliant with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a key liaison with awarding bodies, supporting audit preparation and external quality assurance visits.
  • Analyse performance, quality, and learner data to identify risks, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Produce quality reports and contribute to self‑assessment reports (SAR), quality improvement plans (QIP), and inspection readiness activities.
  • Review and enhance teaching resources, schemes of work, and assessment materials to improve learner outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices, particularly in adult or vocational education.
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing tutors or assessors in a quality or delivery context.
  • Experience conducting teaching observations and delivering clear, developmental feedback.
  • Solid knowledge of assessment principles and Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) processes, including sampling and standardisation.
  • Ability to analyse data and translate insights into actionable quality improvement strategies.
  • Good understanding of awarding organisation requirements and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills across diverse teams.
  • Digital capability with experience in blended and online learning environments.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and delivering high‑quality learner experiences.
  • Qualification in education and assessment practice (such as Level 3 Award in Education and Training and Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, or equivalent).
  • Level 4 IQA qualification or willingness to work towards it is desirable.
