This role offers the opportunity to own and scale critical payment systems powering a global community platform. You will work across the full stack to design and implement subscription billing, invoicing, and monetization workflows that directly impact thousands of businesses. The position combines hands‑on engineering with strategic product thinking, requiring close collaboration with product, design, and leadership teams. You will be responsible for end‑to‑end delivery of payment features, including payment gateway integrations, subscription lifecycle management, and paywall optimization. The role emphasizes reliability, performance, and seamless user experiences while supporting rapid business growth. Accountabilities
- Build and maintain the subscription billing and invoicing engine, including plan management, invoicing, proration, and lifecycle events.
- Implement and scale monetization features such as paywalls, upsells, affiliate tools, and subscription settings.
- Integrate global payment solutions (Stripe, PayPal, in‑app payments) across multiple currencies and business models.
- Design for billing edge cases, including partial periods, legacy pricing, tax/VAT, and failed payments.
- Collaborate with product, design, and leadership from early exploration through launch.
- Own end‑to‑end projects, balancing speed with technical excellence and polished user experiences.
- Continuously improve code quality, developer experience, and system performance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and maintaining complex full‑stack web applications.
- Advanced proficiency in Ruby on Rails, MySQL/PostgreSQL, React, TypeScript, CSS/SCSS, and TailwindCSS.
- Direct experience building, scaling, or operating production subscription billing and invoicing systems.
- Hands‑on experience integrating and maintaining live payment systems.
- Strong product mindset with a focus on user outcomes and seamless experiences.
- Senior‑level ownership mindset with the ability to lead engineering‑heavy, high‑impact initiatives autonomously.
- Comfortable in fast‑paced, remote‑first environments and distributed teams.
- Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading) at CEFR Level C2 / ILR Level 5.
- Bonus: Experience with advanced Stripe features, billing platforms (Outseta, Maxio, Metronome), community or creator tools, and polished interface development.
