Accountabilities
The People Operations Manager will own and develop the operational backbone of the employee lifecycle, ensuring accurate, scalable, and compliant people processes across a growing organization.
This role requires a hands-on builder who can create systems from the ground up, manage recurring operations with precision, and continuously improve workflows through automation and technology.
- Own end-to-end payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy across deductions, adjustments, and payroll cycles.
- Serve as the HRIS owner, managing system configuration, workflow automation, data integrity, and integrations.
- Manage benefits administration processes in collaboration with external partners.
- Build and maintain compliance systems covering employment regulations, registrations, wage requirements, leave policies, documentation, and workforce requirements.
- Oversee employee documentation, work authorization processes, credential tracking, and compliance monitoring.
- Create and maintain policies, employee resources, and operational documentation using AI-assisted tools where appropriate.
- Design and improve onboarding experiences that enable new employees to become productive quickly through streamlined and automated workflows.
- Manage employee lifecycle processes including onboarding, transfers, offboarding, and documentation.
- Support employee relations processes, including investigations, documentation, performance improvement plans, and workplace matters.
- Develop performance management infrastructure, reporting systems, and workforce dashboards to support leadership decisions.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual People processes and implement AI-powered solutions to improve efficiency.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is an experienced People Operations professional with strong operational discipline, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for building scalable systems.
You should have experience supporting growing organizations, managing complex employment operations, and using technology to improve HR processes.
- 4–6+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or a related function, including experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up environment.
- Hands-on experience managing employment infrastructure, including payroll operations, compliance processes, employee documentation, and workforce administration.
- Experience handling employee relations matters, including investigations, documentation, and sensitive conversations.
- Demonstrated ability to build operational systems, processes, and documentation from the ground up.
- Experience using AI tools to create workflows, automate processes, improve documentation, or enhance reporting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in high-volume environments.
- Ability to work US Eastern business hours while being based in Canada.
- Strong understanding of HR technology, automation, and data-driven People Operations.
- Experience administering HRIS platforms, particularly Rippling, is preferred.
- Experience supporting frontline, healthcare, multi-site, or high-volume workforces is an advantage.
- Background working with payroll providers, EORs, PEOs, or HR service providers is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
