We are currently looking for a Staff Protocol Engineer in the United Kingdom. In this role, you will lead the evolution of highly scalable blockchain infrastructure powering millions of daily transactions. You will operate at the protocol layer, solving complex challenges related to performance, consensus, and state growth. Working within a lean, high-impact engineering team, you will shape architectural decisions and drive technical excellence across critical systems. Accountabilities
- Lead the design, prototyping, and implementation of long-term protocol solutions addressing scalability, latency, and state growth challenges.
- Drive architectural decisions across core infrastructure codebases, contributing to Ethereum-aligned and Cosmos-based systems where needed.
- Investigate and resolve deep technical issues in consensus mechanisms, protocol behavior, and state synchronization.
- Champion engineering best practices, including code quality, documentation, automated testing, and performance optimization.
- Mentor and support engineers across the stack, elevating technical standards and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with protocol researchers, DevOps, security, and ecosystem teams to deliver safe, reliable network upgrades.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in backend or protocol engineering, including 2+ years in senior or staff-level roles.
- Deep expertise in Golang and hands-on experience building distributed systems, consensus mechanisms, or blockchain infrastructure.
- Proven background contributing to or working with Ethereum clients, Cosmos SDK, CometBFT, or similar protocol frameworks.
- Strong ability to lead architecture, complex system design, and large-scale performance optimization initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills, with comfort working asynchronously across distributed teams.
- Preferred qualifications include open-source protocol contributions, experience with large-scale performance tooling, and strong interest in decentralized technologies and Ethereum-aligned systems.
