This position is a highly impactful research leadership role focused on advancing knowledge integrity in online communities. You will lead a strategic portfolio of research projects, mentor individual contributors, and translate complex scientific findings into actionable recommendations for decision-makers across the organization. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including legal, communications, and product, while engaging with global scientific stakeholders. You will shape the direction of research on content quality, governance, and trust, driving initiatives that influence both internal strategy and the broader information ecosystem. Travel up to four times per year is expected for collaboration and engagement with key partners.

Accountabilities

  • Lead a strategic research portfolio focused on knowledge integrity, content quality, and governance in online communities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of global research landscapes to inform organizational strategy and risk management.
  • Mentor and guide individual contributors, ensuring high-quality, high-impact scientific output.
  • Translate complex research findings into actionable recommendations for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct rapid technical vetting of external research to identify risks, opportunities, and insights.
  • Represent the organization in research advocacy, public engagement, and collaborations with scientific communities and standards organizations.
  • Build and sustain strategic relationships to influence industry best practices and standards in knowledge integrity research.

Requirements

  • PhD and a minimum of five years of professional experience in a related field.
  • 3+ years of strategic technical leadership in large matrixed organizations, research institutions, or equivalent academic experience.
  • Proven record of scholarly publications and service to research communities, including human-computer interaction or computational social science.
  • Advanced expertise in AI, NLP, ML frameworks, or mixed-method research applied to online community governance and human-system interaction.
  • Ability to distill complex scientific findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong portfolio management skills, balancing high-level strategy with technical execution.
  • Experience auditing algorithms for bias, accuracy, and organizational impact is preferred.
  • Comfort operating in highly visible, public-facing roles and engaging with diverse, multicultural communities.
  • Open to remote work with availability for critical meetings between 15:00 to 19:00 UTC and up to four annual travel events.
