We are currently looking for a Head of Engineering in the United Kingdom. We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to shape and scale high-performing technical teams in a fast-paced, global digital environment. In this role, you will own the delivery of multiple complex projects, define architectural strategy, and ensure operational excellence across all engineering functions. You will mentor and grow engineering talent, establish robust processes, and maintain the reliability and scalability of core systems. The position requires a hands-on, strategic leader who can balance coding, architecture, and people management while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. Accountabilities
- Build, mentor, and manage high-performing engineering teams across Backend, Frontend, DevOps, and Internal Games, establishing clear career paths and fostering a culture of quality and ownership.
- Drive execution across concurrent workstreams, managing resources, capacity, and resolving blockers swiftly to maintain predictable delivery.
- Define and guide architectural decisions in alignment with technical strategy, contributing code to critical paths when necessary.
- Ensure operational excellence, including production stability, incident readiness, major release preparation, and cost-optimized system performance.
- Implement and refine processes such as CI/CD, testing, and release workflows, standardizing practices across teams and improving efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align engineering output with product delivery and strategic goals.
Requirements
- The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise combined with proven leadership experience in dynamic online environments.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience; experience in iGaming is a plus.
- 3–5+ years leading engineering teams or engineering managers, scaling organizations of 15–40 engineers.
- Track record of developing engineering leads and senior technical contributors.
- Strong hands-on backend experience (Node.js, Java, Go, Python, or similar) and understanding of modern frontend development (JavaScript/TypeScript).
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
- Solid database experience (PostgreSQL/MySQL), caching (Redis), and messaging systems.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, observability tooling, and container ecosystems (Kubernetes/ECS).
- Ability to balance strategic architectural thinking with hands-on problem-solving (~20% active coding).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
