This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Engineering Manager, Apps & APIs in the United Kingdom. This is a high-impact leadership role at the intersection of engineering management, product delivery, and developer-facing platform development. You will lead a distributed team responsible for building and evolving the customer-facing surface of a modern marketing mix modeling platform, including core web applications, public APIs, and emerging AI-driven interfaces. The role blends people leadership with strong technical involvement, requiring you to guide architecture decisions while enabling a fast-moving engineering team to deliver high-quality products. You will partner closely with Product and senior leadership to shape roadmap priorities, improve execution processes, and define what great looks like for a modern AI-enabled engineering organization. Accountabilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a distributed team of 4–7 software engineers, fostering strong collaboration, clarity, and accountability.
  • Define team structure, norms, and engineering culture that supports high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Own the execution roadmap, ensuring clear prioritization, effective delivery planning, and timely execution of engineering initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Product to align engineering efforts with business goals and product strategy.
  • Oversee development of customer-facing applications, including web apps, APIs, and AI-enabled interfaces.
  • Contribute to system architecture discussions and provide technical guidance without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
  • Drive the evolution of a production-grade public API strategy focused on reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
  • Support the development of emerging platform components, including agentic applications and AI-native systems.
  • Improve engineering processes, cross-functional collaboration, and delivery efficiency across distributed teams.
  • Ensure high-quality technical execution through code review oversight, architectural guidance, and engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate combines strong engineering leadership experience with a solid technical background in APIs, web systems, and modern SaaS environments.
  • Experience managing and mentoring globally distributed software engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background in web application and API development.
  • Experience working with modern backend technologies such as Ruby on Rails and Python-based services.
  • Proven ability to translate ambiguous product requirements into clear technical deliverables.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining production-grade APIs with external consumers.
  • Strong understanding of API reliability, versioning, scalability, and developer experience principles.
  • Ability to stay technically engaged in architecture discussions and code reviews without blocking delivery.
