We are looking to appoint an Operations Graduate to work alongside the Chief Operating Officer. Initially offered as an 18-month programme to ensure a thorough grounding in the business, the purpose of this programme is to build a future Operations Manager who can work closely with our Location Managers on their Operational site issues.

What does the programme entail?

Within this 18-month period, you will work in three different departments for 6 months each:

  • Mobilisation: During your first six months, you will work at our Newcastle location working closely with the Head of Mobilisation supporting them to deliver our new projects from concept to operations.
  • Project Management: Here you will work from our Liverpool location and be given the tools which we use for project management and how that enables our approach to delivering for our customers.
  • Procurement and Supply Chain: Here you will work between our Liverpool and Newcastle sites and gain an understanding of the work required to ensure that the materials required to keep our trains on track are there when we need them most.

We are therefore looking for someone who is exploring their first role in an Operational team. The successful individual will demonstrate a knowledge of project management and awareness of how an engineering business operates. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving and must be able to develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

In addition to the programme schedule, you will receive training inputs into strategy, finance, leadership and other key business topics with fellow graduates from other Stadler locations at our Headquarters in Switzerland. During this period, you will develop the tools necessary to begin taking on your own workload in the form of small operations projects. You will be involved in supporting external client stakeholder management through meeting attendance and internal preparation meetings, with the support of the wider department. You will develop an understanding of the processes required for project success and will, by the end of the placement, be able to take responsibility for tasks in our operations department.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and adhere to stringent deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent team-player with drive and enthusiasm and a collaborative style
  • Experience of working in a business environment with a varied workload.
  • Willingness to travel

Desirable

  • Previous work experience in an operational or commercial role
  • Previous experience in a transport organisation
