Agratas is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. We design, develop, and manufacture high-quality, high-performance, sustainable batteries for the mobility and energy sectors. We are a scale-up business with a start-up mentality and the backing of a well-established parent company. The UK business headquarters is in the Midlands, and we are currently building a battery manufacturing facility in Somerset. We are looking to complement, scale, and grow our R&D facilities in Abingdon and Coventry with the brightest minds from within the battery and EV sector. Our battery technology roadmap is based on a foundation of world-class solutions for multiple applications. Collaborating with our technical partners, we are industrialising best-in-class high-energy density and long-lasting battery cells. As Head of Pack Engineering, you will be responsible for executing the development of core pack technology, including: Core Pack Design, Core Module Design, Core Electrical Architecture, Core BMS, and Cell Supervisory Electronics. You will work with engineering functional leaders to acquire and build the team with the necessary skill sets to execute our product strategy. The team will be allocated across the UK, India, and USA. The focus will be on product development for our customer base, including JLR and TPEM, and supporting other Global OEMs to grow the Agratas product portfolio. This is a hybrid role based in our Coventry office.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Support the VP in developing and executing a strategic product plan aligned with our customer strategy, emphasising reuse and flexibility across multiple applications.
- Lead the team to build state-of-the-art core battery technology that offers high quality and high performance at a competitive cost.
- Understand regional and global customer requirements to enable product commonality and cost competitiveness.
- Support engineering to ensure process compliance, high product quality, and rapid time-to-market.
- Collaborate with procurement to develop BOM targets and cost models to ensure competitiveness and profitability.
- Work with manufacturing to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) aligns with capabilities and strategy.
- Develop unique selling points for our battery pack technology to provide a competitive advantage.
- Ensure product performance in areas such as thermal propagation, crash integrity, and compliance with customer ASIL requirements.
- Identify skill set requirements within the engineering team for excellent product execution.
- Assess new application scopes with global application leaders, ensuring adherence to core product principles.
- Regularly evaluate talent and skills to support current and future product strategies.
- Support bi-annual performance reviews for key team leaders.
- Implement industry standards and methodologies (e.g., ASPICE, ISO26262, ISO21434, Change Management) to ensure design quality and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure proper toolchains and CAE development tools are available for product development.
- Support budget activities, including resource allocation, capital assets, and establishing support centers.
- Establish and manage the supply base for mainline and core product development, including suppliers and service providers.
- Contribute to product roadmapping to ensure technical progression and cost optimization as industry evolves.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proven experience in developing and managing EV battery systems.
- Experience leading and managing global engineering teams.
- Experience working across international teams considering local competencies and costs.
- Deep expertise in EV battery engineering functions.
- Experience with Cell-to-Pack and cell-to-frame configurations.
- Knowledge of HV electrical architecture, thermal cooling, safety considerations, and creepage and clearance rules.
- Experience implementing ASPICE processes.
- Knowledge in Functional Safety and Cyber Security.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical or Electromechanical Systems.
