Domestic & International Human Rights Advocate

Ashton Recruitment requires a Domestic & International Human Rights Advocate for our client Relatives for Justice. This is funded by Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust Position: Domestic & International Human Rights Advocate Location: Belfast (Hybrid) Duration: Permanent Pay Rate: £35,235 per annum Hours of work: 37 hours per week Relatives for Justice is a victim support NGO working with victims and survivors of the conflict. To support the empowerment of all conflict bereaved and injured to realise improved health and wellbeing and full and equal participation at every level of our post-conflict society. Duties will include: Monitoring UK and Irish state international and domestic human rights obligations to victims and survivors of the conflict; Monitor legacy mechanisms as they apply to victims and survivors\’ experiences and advise regarding compliance with international legal frameworks; Produce submissions and strategic reports to international and domestic bodies on the status of human rights as they apply to victims and survivors Work with the CEO and RFJ Advocacy Casework Team to identify themes and patterns of human rights violations and report on same in RFJ strategic reports and to international and domestic oversight bodies; Support families in pursuit of remedy including preparation of individual Family, thematic and group reports; Advise on potential thematic opportunities for strategic litigation; To provide and produce accessible and easily understood materials regarding the above for victims and survivors; Facilitate and attend meetings between RFJ and relevant stakeholders and organisations; Organise meetings with client groups and/or families for the purposes of sharing information or planning events; Plan and organise conferences, meetings etc as relevant to the work of Relatives for Justice; To maintain high levels of confidentially, in accordance with RFJ polices; To monitor and review the work carried out with families and individuals bereaved and/or injured as a result of the conflict within the RFJ casework area. Essential Criteria: A relevant degree plus 3 years\’ experience of providing human rights advocacy in a professional capacity. Or 5 years\’ experience providing human rights advocacy in a professional capacity. And A proven ability to collate and analyse complex information. A proven ability to draft strategic high-level reports to highlight key human rights issues, for submission to relevant bodies, as appropriate. An excellent understanding of International Human Rights as they relate to victims of conflict. An excellent understanding of the law and legal environment pertaining to \”legacy\” in the local jurisdiction. An excellent understanding of international human rights monitoring and reporting systems regarding human rights for both jurisdictions. Ability to work autonomously and with initiative, including effective prioritisation of tasks and ability to work to agreed aims and objectives. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Sound knowledge of ICT including all Microsoft Office applications (word, excel, outlook, internet etc.). Excellent understanding of impact of the conflict on victims and survivors. Commitment to the core values, aims and objectives of Relatives for Justice. Excellent organisational skills. Hold a full license valid in the jurisdiction with access to a car. This criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to make alternative arrangements.. A driver\’s license and access to own transport can demonstrate ability to fulfil demands of the post.
