The opportunity
A highly respected and long-established Somerset law firm is looking to appoint an experienced Criminal Duty Solicitor to take responsibility for its successful Criminal team.

The appointed individual will take a role in advising on a comprehensive range of matters, including:

  • Responding to emergency calls via the local rota system
  • Ensuring custody officers and investigators follow proper legal rules and treat detainees fairly
  • Consult with clients to discuss allegations
  • Review disclosure information from the police
  • Submit prepared statements
  • Sit with clients during formal questioning, providing advice in real time
  • Make representations to police custody officers regarding release on bail or police detention limits
  • Represent unrepresented defendants
  • Managing first appearances and remands
  • Conducting basic hearings
  • Liaising with prosecutors The candidate The ideal candidate is a qualified duty Solicitor, however, assistance for the right candidate to become qualified could be provided. the successful candidate will also have qualities such as:

  • Adaptability and flexibility you should also have some experience in matters such as:
  • Handling police station representation
  • Conducting magistrates'' court advocacy
