Bilfinger UK have a requirement for a Rigging Supervisor to be based at Hinkley Point on a permanent basis As a Rigging Suoervisor you will have many responsibilities including deciding which pulleys, booms, braces and cables are strong enough for each job. You will work as part of a team responsible for moving heavy loads such as pipes using a variety of machinery including telecranes, cherry pickers and forklift trucks. Rigging, or Moving Loads, is one of the most highly responsible jobs in the engineering and construction industry. You must be able to work well as a member of a team, having the safety of self, others, the load and the lifting equipment at the forefront of your mind. Planning and executing a lift requires a thorough and logical approach, excellent communication skills and the persistence to see the job all the way through to a successful conclusion. You will usually be working on a construction site – in all weathers – to assist in the installation of machinery and equipment. You will work with teams of other skilled trades\’ people to help assemble – or dismantle – plant and structural steelwork, on anything from a new sports stadium to an oil refinery. You will be expected to know where to attach the hooks, chains and cables that are used to lift a load safely and in some cases you will be responsible for building the equipment around the object to be moved, such as a tower or boom. While the object is being lifted, Riggers use hand signals, radios, walkie-talkies and other means to direct crane operators and help guide the objects being moved into place, so good communication – by a variety of means – is vital in the Rigger\’s role. â–ª Select gear, such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weight and size, facilities and work schedule. â–ª Fabricate and repair rigging, such as slings, tackle, and ladders, using hand and power tools. â–ª Assemble and install supporting structures, rigging, hoists, and pulling gear, using hand and power tools. â–ª Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps. â–ª Attach load to rigging, to provide support or prepare for moving, using hand and power tools. â–ª Signal or gives verbal directions to workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials. â–ª Test rigging, to ensure safety and reliability. â–ª Dismantle, maintain and store rigging equipment. â–ª Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear, to move or support materials, and heavy equipment. â–ª Align, level and anchor machinery. â–ª Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces. â–ª Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts.
